We have between two and three classes in each grade. Our Grade 1 and 2 classes are based at the Old Stone Building which we call the Prep School while the Grade 3 classes are based at the Primary School in Dunkeld Road. We normally have 24 children per class. We base our teaching on the CAPS curriculum.
Camps Bay Primary School uses an integrated approach to assist our children to make sense of their learning and how it fits into the world they know. Learning to read, write and work with number is the foundation for future learning. We are fortunate to have small classes at our school where this can be done in a supportive and thorough manner.
Grade 1 is very much about the foundational skills required for all learning to come, while Grade 2 sees the beginning of application of skills to solve problems, learn information and create content through writing. The recent addition of coding has extended the experience of our children into the digital space where they use tablets to work on sequencing and order to create code. This is normally done in the new Innovation Centre which was developed to increase opportunity for different learning experiences and more independent learning as well. The children are also able to make use of the Camps Bay Public Library to take out reading books, once a week. We value this community relationship enormously.
Our Grade 3s are located on the Primary School Campus on Dunkeld Road and operate in much the same way as the Grade 2s. The emphasis is on developing the skills needed to learn more independently in the higher grades. On this campus they have access to the computer lab and library which they visit weekly. They also make use of the tablets which are available for class-based learning.
