On Monday, 28 May 1906 the first 7 pupils were enrolled with Mrs Edith M. Adcock as principal and only teacher. These seven pupils included one boy in Std 4, one boy and one girl in Sub B, and two boys and two girls in Sub A. By 1912 the school had grown to 42 children, and a new school building was erected. This charming stone building is part of the present Camps Bay Preparatory School building. The school continued to grow and in 1955, the present Camps Bay Primary building in Dunkeld Road was completed.
It was at this point, with nearly 300 pupils in the primary classes, that the High School moved to its own premises. In 2019, the new Grade R Campus was opened which at last gave the children at the Prep School access to a grassed sport area.
The Prep, Primary and High Schools all operated as separate entities with their own management structures until 2020, when the WCED determined that the Prep and Primary Schools should be combined as one school, albeit on different campuses.
For 120 years Camps Bay Primary has been a provider of quality education and a place that children remember for life.
The Drive’ building 1912 now is home to Grade 1 and 2 children.
