We have three Grade R classes, located on their own Campus across the road from the Preparatory Campus. This space provides a safe and secure environment for our youngest children to enjoy, with a field and outdoor play facilities. Our classes are normally made up of 22 children. Each class has a teacher and assistant to ensure that we are able to give the best possible grounding in preparation for Grade 1.
Our pre-school offers a holistic approach to learning and development and is designed to prepare our children for formal schooling in Grade 1. The basics of numeracy and literacy are developed through concrete learning. It is not about getting ahead, but rather about ensuring that a sound foundation exists on which to build further learning, especially in Grade 1.
Play is an important part of the curriculum in Grade R. Children learn through play and sensory experiences. They are encouraged to get dirty, run around barefoot and build in the sand! At these times they are learning social skills too, like waiting their turn and the importance of kindness, and realising that others have needs too.
The day is structured in such a way that children experience opportunity to make free choices as well as participate in accordance with structured and planned activities.
